Manu Ginobili

1995-2018

Manu Ginobili is not know to be one of the best NBA players ever, but he has been one of the most impactful players ever. He was a part of the Argentina international team that beat the United States to for a gold medal in the Olympics. He was one of the first guys to put the team before himself and was willing to come off the bench and not leave to play somewhere he would start. If he would have done that, he could have averaged way better numbers than he did on the Spurs. There are not many players who do this now because players are no longer loyal to the teams who drafted them, players are beginning to chase championships. “When Steve Kerr became the coach of the Golden State Warriors, he cited Ginobili, his former teammate, as an example in successfully selling Andre Iguodala on the merits of coming off the bench” (Bontemps). Ginobili has inspired some players to take a back seat and come off the bench in order for the team become successful.
Ginobili is most noted for the creation of the Euro-step, a move used in order to avoid defenders who are trying to take a charge. This move is something that everybody in the NBA uses because of how effective it is. Ginobili perfected this move and showed players around the world that the Euro-step is a must have move to have in your repertoire. This move has changed the ways people defend at the rim because it’s very hard to take a charge on someone who is able to avoid you at any instance.
